Rio Dulce is an eco lodge nestled between the river and the dense jungle of eastern Guatemala. The river connects a lake to the Atlantic Ocean, providing a thoroughfare for large yachts and catamarans making it a very wealthy area. It is known as a haven for wealthy and sometimes corrupt families of the country. We stayed in cute bungalows surrounded by birds of paradise, palm trees, and mangroves.
We rented kayaks one morning and paddled our hearts out around the river banks, watching locals spear fishing and countless birds take flight. We took a short walk through the jungle and went swimming a few times a day in the beautiful pool.
