Glacier National Park

So you know the whole “find your park” motto with the National Park Service? Well, I have now found mine. Glacier National Park is stunning and right up my alley. The rugged peaks, expansive wilderness, untamed nature, and glacial lakes are all incredible. It only took dating a Montanan for nearly 8 years to finally get up to the Flathead.

Over the fourth of July long weekend, we met up with Whit’s family in Helena and drove the beautiful loop up to Glacier National Park and back. The park was quite busy, but the jaw dropping cliffs and narrow bends along Going to the Sun Road were worth slowing down for. We even saw a black bear along the way. That night, we had dinner at the Lake McDonald Lodge, which was delicious and picturesque.

We stayed in White Fish, which boasts high end shops and restaurants downtown. It reminds me a lot of Park City or Jackson Hole, with the ski resort atmosphere. On Friday, we drove around the rest of the valley, admiring the cherry orchards lining the Flathead Lake. On Saturday, we went on a hike in Whitefish before heading downtown for the art show. My heart fell in love with the Flathead Valley this past weekend. I will definitely return to this rugged expanse time and time again in the future.
