Waste Free: Beeswax Lip Balm

This lip balm is da’ bomb! It is incredibly soothing on the most chapped of lips and lasts longer than traditional store bought chap sticks. So say bye bye to those plastic chap stick tubes and hello to zero waste, toxin free lip balm.

For those of you who love Burt’s Bees (me, me, me!), this imitation lip balm provides the same refreshing mint smell and palliative comfort. I unfortunately, or not so unfortunately, tend to live in a bubble and didn’t realize that Clorox bought out Burt’s Bees. Another solid company sadly joined the ranks of a few corporate giants. This is even more of a reason to support your local beekeepers and roll up those sleeves with some do-it-yourself lip balm action.

In a small pot, melt equal parts beeswax, shea butter, and coconut oil. In order to fill our two small metal tins, I needed 2 tablespoons of each ingredient. Once melted, add in 10-20 drops of mint essential oil. Immediately pour into metal tins or old chap stick tubes. Let solidify for a few hours and then it’s ready to use. Once you make this stuff, you’ll never go back to shabby store bought balms. One tin lasted me about ten months. So it’s a money saver too! Enjoy!
