The magnificent city of Vienna serves as a political, economic, and cultural hub of Austria. Museums populate nearly every street, music reigns supreme, and history comes alive inside the various palace walls. We walked from dawn til dusk every day of our stay in Vienna, attempting to squeeze in every ounce of the humanities we could. We strolled around the Museums Quartier, admired classical architecture along the Ring Road, captured photos of dozens of monuments, and stood mesmerized by the ornate decorum of Schonbrunn Palace and the Belvedere. We had a list in hand of dozens of sights to see, all little specks circled on our city map, and navigated to and fro for hours. Our eyes took in more than I can remember.
One night we splurged and went to the Vienna State Opera House. It was the highlight of our stay in Vienna. We also saw the Hofburg Palace, St. Stephen’s Cathedral, the Albertina, the Austrian National Library, and the Museum of Fine Arts. We took a short day trip out to Melk Abbey, where the bright yellow walls were unfortunately muted by the continuous dreary rain.
