Turkish Ruins

Turkey was such a wonderful introduction to Muslim culture. Istanbul was the highlight of our time in Turkey, but exploring the ancient ruins was the best history lesson anyone could ask for. As corny as it sounds, I felt like we had traveled back in time with each step among the ruins. We toured Ephesus, Troy, Pergamum, and Hierapolis. Each site was incredible, but it is no surprise that Ephesus is still my favorite. Any place that deems a library well worth a beautiful facade and central to the town holds a special place in my heart.

We also toured a Turkish rug company, learning how they harvest silk from silk worms, dye the threads, and the art of weaving. Each day, we stopped for Turkish coffee breaks in the afternoons. It is still to this day, my favorite coffee.
